Tele2 is a major telecommunications operator in the Nordic and Baltic countries, and an alternative provider in many others. With 4G coverage across 99% of Lithuania's territory — shared with Pildyk users — Tele2 is one of the leading prepaid mobile operators in the country. A rapidly growing user base created ongoing demand for new system functionality, as well as the continued maintenance and improvement of existing features.
Challenges
The primary challenge was determining how to merge two large, technically different applications into a single, lightweight single-page application.

To deliver this successfully, we participated in the full development process from the planning stage through to release.
  • Outdated, complex codebase with divergent technical decisions across the two systems.
  • Different technologies and development patterns used in the corporate and self-service systems.
  • Two legacy vanilla JS applications had to be combined into a single, lightweight Vue.js single-page application.
Goals
Our primary goal was to bring the Pildyk system in line with modern technical and architectural standards. To achieve this, we defined the following objectives:
  • Merge two separate systems into a single, lightweight single-page application.
  • Perform a full redesign.
  • Implement 24/7 support.
  • Refactor outdated code.
  • Maintain existing features.
  • Improve performance.
Created Value
Despite the two applications having been built on different technologies and incompatible design patterns, the team successfully merged them into a single, lightweight single-page application.

AgileTo manage a constant flow of changing requirements and incoming tasks, we relied on Agile development principles. Using the Scrum framework, we maintained close, continuous communication with the client throughout the entire development process.
RedesignToughlex was — and continues to be — a key part of the Pildyk redesign. Working with skilled web designers, we delivered a near-complete overhaul of the system's interface, implemented new features, and improved overall performance.
24/7 supportGiven the platform's hundreds of thousands of users and a highly competitive market, maintaining maximum system uptime throughout development was critical. To ensure this, we assigned a dedicated Toughlex representative to respond quickly to any issues as they arose.
Mobile app APIToughlex developed and maintained the REST API for both the iOS and Android mobile applications.
Technologies
The project had already been running for several years before we joined, so the technology stack was already established. As the project was divided into distinct parts, different technologies were in use for different functions. The frontend was built on vanilla JavaScript — an outdated and increasingly difficult-to-maintain approach — so we rewrote it using Vue.js, a lightweight, modern framework. Vue.js components are available in Storybook, a tool that simplifies UI development and component review.

The server-side and administrative applications comprise many different development patterns and technologies: ASP.NET Core, PHP, MS SQL, MySQL, AngularJS, and others. Maintaining these applications and working across a varied technology landscape requires a highly skilled and adaptable development team.
